1970 interior

Postby torogt » Tue Feb 18, 2014 10:04 pm

I need to restore my interior, I want to do it in the original pattern but can't find aftermarket interior kits for the Toronado, also my door panels are in really bad shape, can anyone tell me if the 68-70 interiors are the same other than i know the dash is different

I'm not exactly an expert, but I did just look at a 69 interior, and it has this special pattern used only that year called Excella, on the doors and seats, so I would say they are not the same. I don't know how 68 and 70 stack up exactly either when compared, but tend to think 68 will be closer to 69.

The interiors are different for each year--68/69 have some similarities but the 1970 is indeed quite different in pattern and panels.

My view on 68-69 and 70 interiors is they are each very distinctive to their year. I personally see some similarity's between the 68 and 70, that though is limited to the door panels only.
Of the 66-70 my preference is the 69 Custom, that said the 68 base with it embossed inserts in the seats adds a touch of style to an otherwise simple interior.
Interestingly the 68 base model sale were equal to the 66 @ 15% or 3,957 units, but of course the 66 sales were in excess of 40K @15% that's 6,333 standard model units. The 69 was second only to the 66 in total sales with 28,494 followed by the 68 -26,454, 70 - 25,433 then the 67 21,790.

See if you can locate the correct material from SMS Fabric in Oregon and have an upholsterer make a new interior using the old one for patterns.

http://www.smsautofabrics.com/

I recently did this on a '56 Cadillac and it came out perfectly. SMS has perfect orginal fabrics with the correct colors and patterns.

As for the door panels, SMS can usually make those as well.

here are some pictures of a 1970 Toronado interior that I just took. This is not a GT, so not sure what trim differences there may have been inside.

There were no differences with the interiors as it relates to the GT regardless of the base or custom.
