Re: kickdown switch, 1966 Toro
Can you please provide more info. I did read that the two wires indicated Switch Pitch. But how are the vanes on the torque converter controlled? They replaced mine, so I'm concerned it won't work properly (or as well as it should). I think those are not available, but have to be rebuilt. Here's th...

kickdown switch, 1966 Toro
Otto: According to the parts book, the kickdown switch should be the same for 66-67. Not surprising to me. There seems to be one also intended for heavy duty trailer use with the toronado. Basic Part number, kickdown switch, 66-67 Toronado: 392983 for H.D. trailer use: 395081. This is mounted on en...

Re: "66 project update
We removed the old bushings and replaced with new ones of the exact same type. You have to wel the arms to strengthen them, or when you push in the new bearings, it will bend the arms at the attachment point. Nice job of boxing in the end. i just inserted a curved fitted piece of steel to change bu...

Re: "66 project update
This pic shows a bare lower that I was welding the bushing shells into as well as welding up the seams. I don't understand. Usually those bushings are pressed in and out, can't do if they are welded. Mine all have rubber molded into the inside, where is yours? Those welds don't have much penetratio...

rear disc brake conversion 68
Certainly front discs are a huge improvement over drums. I've had 3 79 Toro or Eldo cars, driven many miles over 30 years. My experience with the first Toro and all my RWD cars is that front disc/rear drums are fine if you're not into racing. The last 2 FWD cars with rear discs were quite troublesom...

Re: Starting Problem on "66 Toro
my car would not start. What is that silver thing? It looks like a switch or solenoid or something. When I tapped it on Saturday, was it just a coincidence that the car started afterward? I am pretty sure the silver thing is your horn relay, which in some years also served as a key buzzer. Good wor...

Re: '67 Running Extremely Rich
Hi everyone, and I appreciate any advice in advance. Have a '67, when I bought it we discovered someone had installed a carb for a 455 engine on it. I bought a brand new "4MV" carb. When received we took it apart, everything looked new, verified jets were proper and reassembled. The reaso...

HELP With a Transmission leak!
I've been fighting a transmission leak for 1+ years in my 1966 toronado. I replaced the lower pan gasket 3x last time doubling the gasket. The rear pan around the chain 2x I had to cut the top of the gasket to get it in. I've heard a small leak is normal do other people have the same problem? 101,5...

Hi all, When I bought my 66 the carb linkage for the trans switch wasn't hooked up.... Plan to hook it up soon.. Is their also another switch for control of the switch pitch or is it all in the carb linkage? Brenden I believe you will find connected to the switch, one wire supplying ignition 12V an...

Re: Possible LOW Oil Pressure Problem
20w-50 is a good choice for old engines that have a lot of wear. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'd keep monitoring it, though. Don't go drag racing it. Pull the cover off as suggested if it's keeping you up nights but I'd try to enjoy it as is for now. I have driven many an Olds V8 past 200,0...
