"Won't crank" is TOTALLY different from "Cranks but won't start".

Re: 455 front main seal

That said however ... in lieu of the traditional rope seal used on the Olds SB BB a Ford 460 rear main lip seal will inter-change with the Olds BB rear main as a alternative to the rope and with good results. To date I know of no such alternative for the Olds SB I thought the small block could use ...

Re: 455 won't start / 1970 Toro

ok guys...i've checked the TDC of the first cylinder...the mark on the damper was around 6° before....so since the shop manual says 5°-7° i guess its ok. You have #1 piston at TDC but the mark on the damper aligns with 6* mark of the timing pointer??? The damper has slipped and is now ruined. You h...

Re: Exhaust Leaks Eliminated!!!

I have NEVER seen a fuel-injection system that will out-do a properly tuned carburetor for throttle response. Fuel injection and drive-by-wire is typically so terrible at throttle response it's unbelievable. Fuel economy--not so much. Most fuel injection systems struggle to achieve stoich--14.7-to-1...

Re: 455 won't start / 1970 Toro

Production-line rebuilt carbs are worse than a worn-out original carb. They're a disaster you special-order. You need four things to keep an engine running: 1. A BURNABLE FUEL/AIR MIXTURE 2. COMPRESSION 3. SPARK ACROSS THE PLUG GAP, AT THE RIGHT TIME 4. A FREE-FLOWING EXHAUST You have probably prove...

Re: Can't believe my cv boot posts has 35 views & not ONE re

1. I thought the shafts with the dampers were '66 right side only. Eliminated in '67 or maybe '68? Am I wrong?

2. I don't know of ANY place to buy boots from, of any style. Good thing I have a batch of axles...

Re: I'm thinking of doing the Disc conversion on my '66 a fe

I am absolutely certain that the upper ball joint had a different taper from drum to single-piston disc steering knuckle. Installing mis-matched parts will either be difficult and dangerous due to not enough thread poking through the knuckle, OR damned dangerous due to increased stress on the ball j...

Re: Steering gear box

Can an Eldorado 67 variable rate box be used on the 66 Toro? I would expect so. There is an old thread about upgrading the steering box by switching the torsion bar in the box o get more return action and feel, has anyone else done this? Fredrik A larger torsion bar will give you more road feel and...

Re: ATF, or Power Steering fluid?

Newer Dexron isn't suitable. Alrighty, thanks! I think I actually saw some dex II at o'Reilys yhe other day. Curiousity begs me to ask, why not though :P New ATF is much "thinner" than the older stuff; and it's got friction modifiers suitable for use with the clutch and bands of transmiss...
