No 3rd gear when hot
When the 66 is cold it shifts very normally into all gears. After it gets hot, it gives a very mushy attempt to go into 3rd. It will go in to 3rd but goes into 2nd as soon as you give it any gas.Any ideas are appreciated! Rich I would ask, if/when this trans has gotten either an overhaul, or perhap...

Can oil pan be removed?
I have all the front suspension parts from a 75 Eldorado and I was going to put them in my '66, so the axleshaft being in the way at the time is not a problem. Thanks. Using a 70s front suspension with the disc brakes is a great upgrade for the 66, and get the dual circuit master cylinder too. When...

Re: Can oil pan be removed?
If you're like most people, struggling with all that crap might be the only practical way to do it (if it's possible at all). If you aren't like most people and have a hoist and a garage in which to work, then by all means, pull the engine. I pulled dozens of engines using a $100 engine hoist. That...

Re: Can oil pan be removed?
Hello, Can an oil pan be removed in a Gen 1 Toronado without having to pull the engine? Thanks. That is going to be extremely difficult with the oil filter and starter crowding the passenger side, the cross over shaft running under it, the trans under it, and the final drive on the drivers side. I ...

Re: Final drive leak....
Here's the corresponding drawing out of the parts manual.. This may not be it. But the right side cross over shaft on a 66-67 Toro (3.21:1 final drive) is a smaller dia than on a 68-78 Toro (3.07 or 2.73 final drive). If they sent you a 68-78 seal, it wouldn't seal at all. Don't know if the left si...

Re: 1966 Toronado 425 V8 engine overhaul need help
Hi there, you two are on the right track. Biggest problem is I do not have any information about the previous "overhaul". I only see some parts looking like new and a quite clean lifter valley, top end.... Harald Harald, A 66-78 Toro uses an oil pickup which extends some 1.25 inch lower t...

Re: 1966 Toronado 425 V8 engine overhaul need help
Its a shame to see that happen to a good engine. Stories like that are why I always advise not doing anything to a short block unless it really does have a serious issue. First the oil pressure problem has to be fixed. Toro has a big deep pan, there is no excuse for the oil light coming on. You coul...

replacing the stall or torque converter
So I have my engine apart. Been having some issues with deciding if I should pull the tranny with the engine. Not sure where the access point is to install the torque converter. If there isn't one wouldn't it be easier to pull and stab the tranny out side of the engine bay? Also what's the best way...

Disc Brake conversion 1966
After a million and a half miles in every kind of weather, I could tell many stories about brakes. I would not own a car unless it had dual circuit brakes. Drums in front will serve you well in fair weather at low speeds. They failed miserably and dangerously for me in the 60s. How and where will yo...
