68 Eldorado Tranny in a 66 Toro

Bruce, Here is a photo of the kickdown switch. That is the original switch. The single wire supplies 12V ign. The pair of wires go down to the trans. If you unplug the bottom, trans end, you will see there is only a lug connected to the bottom wire, for kickdown. The upper wire connects to nothing ...

68 Eldorado Tranny in a 66 Toro

Too bad, you lost a bit of extra performance & economy without the switch pitch trans. What did they do about the electric kickdown; is the original 3 terminal switch at the back of the engine? The final drive could have been changed out too; your original had a 3.21:1 ratio, with an 8 bolt cove...

The Culprit -- Single MC

My method is to take the complete brake system off a 70s Toro/Eldo: discs, dual master cylinder,
proportioning valve, etc. Long ago I scrapped a few such cars and saved those parts for a 66
owner to make the conversion; don't have any now.

66 Transmission overflow

The vent/overflow is right there in the picture. The year of the trans is stamped in that yellow
tag. Note a 66/67 is a switch pitch, 2 terminals on the electrical connector. 68 up is fixed,
most have only 1 terminal. Bruce Roe

Re: Electrical instrument dysfunction

My 79 had a pretty ordinary speedo, but the digital dashes represent a radical change in operation. I know by 87 they had things like high frequency switching power supplies, stuff not seen in cars much before. You will need to find detailed info on that design, and possibly a specialist. I never ow...

Re: Northstar engine swap

Thanks for your response. Yes, I have heard they had coolant, head gasket problems. The upgrade would be increasing the horse power by a factor of 3 with a tranny that is designed to handle the power. I have considered a big block Olds but clearance problems and fear of overpowering the existing tr...

1966 Toronado air condition upgrade

I had various sized cars in the 60s, which were driven everywhere in any weather. I never felt much confidence in the drum brakes or the single circuit master cylinder. I once had to drive through a pot hole that I couldn't see was VERY deep, because it was full of water. Then I had to hit the brake...

Insane serpentine belt kit...

I had an 82 Olds with a serpentine belt. I noted if the tensioner failed, I couldn't drive the car. If the air conditioner clutch bearing failed, or the power steering went, or the other idler, I was SOL. These things have actually happened to me, mostly more than once. On my 81 I could take a V bel...

Re: High torque starter

One of those mini geared starters might do it. Generally they can be rotated around for
clearance. I have one but haven't tried it yet. Ran out of space putting a 78 TH425 trans
into a 79 (TH325) Toronado. Bruce Roe

Toronado 1970 Turn Switch

My guess is that a standard switch would work, but no turn lights. Maybe combine parts from
them both to make what you really want. Bruce Roe
