Re: octane for 425

I also used a primitive form of water injection on my first Toronado engine. It worked well enough to prompt me to use it again for the same reason although the new system is far superior to the old one. Not sure yet what the consumption will be, and I will be using a water/methanol mix - basically ...

Re: posi-traction

Yup, you are screwed. Your tastes require a lot of character in the body lines to appreciate the car, and I do see the problem for you. Lucky for me I do find many modern cars attractive as well as the classics, so I get to appreciate both worlds. Lucky for you that there are so many cool classics y...

Re: posi-traction

I know you will likely not believe me, but as great as the classics are, the modern cars are just amazing. The latest Camaro, for example, built on the Cadillac Alpha platform found under the CTS and ATS cars. I have driven an ATS-V with the six-speed manual and it was an amazing experience. I love ...

Just bought Cruise Control

I have been looking at the Dakota Digital Cruise Control for some time now and finally went for it this month. It will plug right into the speed adapter and should run the EFI throttle quite well. I just have to figure out where to mount the motor and some other stuff and then install the GM type st...

Re: th425 550hp /600 tq

Hmm.. I have often wondered if a set of shorty headers might not be a good compromise. I might give it a shot one day, I gather that they have kits to model them and then I can take the model to a shop and have them build me a set with the car there. If I do the initial modelling I should save quite...

Re: posi-traction

OK, now that you mention it, I guess I should consider that I have some experience with cars from the 60s and 70s through the 80s and most of the larger ones I drove were fairly boaty by my book compared to my Toro. However, it is worth considering that all the Toros I have ever owned - those rattle...

Re: posi-traction

I do not understand: ...though a toronado ain't a performance car like that. I beg to differ, this is one of the major reasons I love our cars so much. Compared to any other car of the era ours handles incredibly well when set up properly, and if I trusted the rear suspension I can get some serious ...

Re: 1969 questions

This is why I plan to develop an IRS for the Toro. The leaf springs and live axle detract from the handling and I am paranoid about the possibility of losing the whole thing if I corner hard enough. I also have access to Art Morrison's Chassis Shop if I can afford it, so the possibility of a really ...

Re: th425 550hp /600 tq

Please tell me more about what needs to be done to install those headers. I have been desperately looking for a set as I know the stock exhaust is about as crummy as it can get...

I gather they came from Applied GMC? How much modification, if any, was required to install?

Re: octane for 425

Indeed you are correct. The best way to resolve this is to put a sound transducer in the appropriate location. However, this probably can be dealt with by simply using audible knock as the signal and then backing off an additional half or full degree... Plugs can show evidence of detonation but are ...
