Re: Torsion bars and spings
I think it doesn't matter which end of the Tbar is in front, the twist is the same. But it needs to stay on the same side. Bruce Roe Incorrect, Bruce. Turning the torsion rods front to back / back to front will reverse the direction of the twist relative to the vehicle. It would be the same as swap...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
I can confirm that the torsion bars are made of SAE 5160H alloy steel with an enamel finish, 1.071" x 58.05", with a spring rate of 465lb/in (162lb/in at the wheel). The rear springs are tapered single-leaf, SAE 5160 alloy steel 64" x 3" with a spring rate of 125lb/in (139lb/in ...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
The color of the torsion bars is a kind of ugly green. I've cleaned them off carefully as they had some dirt, but mostly undercoating sprayed all over them when they were new. Now, as I've removed the rear springs on my Toro along with the frame, I noticed that the rear leaf springs seem to be pain...

How Do You Adjust the Transmission Kickdown on a 1966 T
Yes, that's the rod I'm talking about. It connects the throttle to the lever on the kickdown switch. What are the specs for adjusting that? What position is the lever on the switch supposed to be in at idle, etc? You could check it with a 12V test light. The wire to the top tab on the trans should ...

Bruce! That's a project my friend! FINALLY we are getting relief from the cold & snow. You need to get those discs and everything else back on the road, drive those cars. I will be doing some work on my 79 Eldo (78 Toro drive train) to try and make it roadworthy. Here is the update on the 15 KW...

I have patched up a lot of bad PC boards by soldering wires to reconnect or better connect things. In some cases lower the overall resistance to improve accuracy. It is also possible to get & use modern connectors and move them into a cable in place of originals. Might need to add wire to bypass...

425 harmonic balancer
What doesn't fit is the counterweight. It might be ok with a RWD car but in the FWD Toronado the weight hits the front engine mount bracket. I will trim the weight about 2 - 3mm from the bottom side. That won't take a lot of weight away and it will clear the bracket... I will post some pics when it...

425 harmonic balancer
waterzap wrote:No, was one similar to the one on the bottom pic. They don’t fit, at least not in the Toronado.
That looks just like mine; used on 350/403 FWD/RWD here. Can't see the weight side,
what didn't fit? Bruce

I bought an aftermarket one. Does not fit. Got a rebuilt one on ebay for around $150. Works perfectly. You bought a FluiDamper, and it doesn't fit? I have them on 5 cars, got fed up with dampers falling apart. I believe the dia was 1.5", or some such round number. Hope the 425 is the same as t...
