Re: Fuel tank filter sock

Howdy, looking to buy a few fuel tank socks for the 1970 Toronado sending unit. Any information or source would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carmen. You can still get them from GM, just need the modern part #. That is where I got mine... I don't remember where I got the number orriginally though...

Re: transmission issues?

From my research, I've almost never heard of a 1st gen toro that did not have its original transmission... or even one that did not have an original engine. The drive trains were dramatically overbuilt and very reliable. The only common thing to go walk-about is the carburetor. Every Toro I looked a...

Re: Torsion bars

I'm not sure about the specific question... I know it says if you even scratch them you are supposed to replace them.

If nothing else, you could use paint stripper on them. And to remove the rust, some naval jelly.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with an answer though.

Re: Got lucky with my gas tank...

I agree fully with Twilight. It is pretty easy other than the bolts themselves. I was very lucky, they were not rusty as they were coated with rubber or something. Luckily I did not have to drop the exhaust, but if you need to grind the bolts off then you probably will need to remove the muffler. A...

Re: Is it heresy?

Errr... where's the windshield, Doc? Got all the bits painted and hope to put them back today. Really looking forward to the new look as it never looked right to me with the headlights visible. that was the day I brought my toro home. The metal under the windshield was rusted out, and it ha...

You just gotta open the doors when you've got the headlamps up, and it looks like The Mothership, lol

Re: Is it heresy?

I agree. I tend to prefer the covered lights such as on the '68 and '69 to the pop-ups on the '66 and '67 although it only matters when they are raised. For some reason I am not too keen on the raised look. This applies to Corvettes and any other pop-up design and is a major factor in why I put the...

May I shamelessly suggest you add polyurethane control arm bushings while you have the whole mess apart? Simple, easy, no hydraulic press needed--although it'll take a propane torch and some sandpaper. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=116 While Shurkey may be a bit biased when it comes to his own product, I...
