Re: Aluminum Heads for Olds 455

Well, folks, I got the Aluminum Heads late last week and I have to say they look awesome. Adjustable rocker studs, improved combustion chamber, no heat crossover, much lighter. I am really looking forward to installing them in a week or two once the block work is complete. Also got the Rockwell alum...

Re: Suffering a Relapse in Gig Harbor...

Well, I finally got the point of my restoration where I am working on the engine. Sent the block off for machining, got the Edelbrock Aluminum heads with roller tip rockers, reworked and relieved stock rods, and the aluminum intake manifold. Once the shop lets me know what they found with the block ...

Re: Hello Toro Owners...Need Your Advice!

Holding out for the right car is very important. If you are looking for a low-maintenance car then you need to shoot for the best you can find up front. That said, as was noted above, these cars are actually remarkably simple to work on. Everything is readily accessible, most issues are simple wrenc...

Re: Full Exhaust set available from Waldrons

Update: Just called them again to let them know that they need to make sure the photos match or they are likely to lose business. They said they will look into getting the photo updated and they pointed out that they have so many variations for so many cars it is hard to get shots of all systems. Th...

Re: Full Exhaust set available from Waldrons

Hi, I called them some time ago and asked them this very question - about the duals as I have no interest in the single outlet system. For whatever reason they do not use the actual photo from the Toro exhaust. However, the actual product is a Toro exhaust. They clearly understood the requirements a...

Re: Replacing rear frame rails on a 1966

Looks like the track width is very close - enough to allow one to consider grafting a 71-78 rear onto a first gen car. The difference is about a quarter inch. Oddly, there appears to be about .4" difference in front with the Gen1 cars being slightly wider. Go figure. I thought they were identic...

Re: Replacing rear frame rails on a 1966

Hi Shurkey, I am reasonably certain the track width is the same up to the final 78 model. Since the front end is basically identical it stands to reason it would be the same in back. Not sure how practical your idea is, but if it works, it sounds like an excellent approach. I hope to design and buil...

Re: Firestone TFD Tire

Oh, sorry, my description was of my Toronado from the mid-eighties. I will not be buying tires for my new one until it is back on the road sometime this spring (if all goes well). That is when I plan to go with BFG Radial TAs again. I would not choose any other tire. Reasonably priced and a v...

Re: Firestone TFD Tire

I prefer the BF Goodrich Radial TA for my Toronado. I had a set of these in 60 series (P253-60 R15) back in the mid-80s and they were fantastic. I once entered a cloverleaf at 35 mph, pinned the throttle (on my rebuilt 455) and came out of the turn at 95 mph onto the highway. Those tires were incred...

Re: WooHoo! Found my old stash!

Well, luck is often sown by your past actions. Having been infected with the bug when I was 18 it lead to owning and processing several Toronados in the mid-'80s. Hmmm... let's see... at least 2 '68s, one '69, a '67, a '70, and a '73 if I recall correctly. The sad part is that my first Toro was a '6...
