2nd gear downshift problem

Bruce will probably have the answer but shooting from the hip I'd say that perhaps your kickdown rod needs to be adjusted. I don't know what it is, but my suspicion is its in the engine. More specific some kind of carb/fuel problem. However, do make sure the 12V signals to the trans kickdown and SW...

Re: Re gearing the "final drive"

Hello, I have a '66 with a mild 455 and I am finding myself wanting less gear for the highway. I have a final drive from a 75 Eldorado, 2.73. I plan on swapping it in when I do the disk brake conversion (I have the rest of the suspension from the Eldorado), but it is only a 15% change from the curr...

Re: For those who are restoring their car...

I believe there is not a finer Toronado any where unless some one has one with zero miles and hidden for 49 years. ED Zero miles cars might belong in a museum, but they don't impress me. I'll take my 200,000 miles Olds next to that one to the farthest coast. The zero mile car will never get there, ...

Half shaft joint life

I was wondering, if anyone has ideas on the service of a half shaft joint for a
79-85 Toronado? They seem to last a long time, but probably not as far as
I will take them. How is wear measured? How this affected when I run a left
side in reverse on the right side.? Bruce Roe

Re: What Material Do You Prefer For Brake Shoes on 1966 Toro

I use organic because it doesn't take as much pressure, and it doesn't wear my drums & rotors very much. The down side is, it will fade a lot more in extreme use. I don't get into extreme (multiple high speed stops or racing) situations, and I use brakes that are on the large end of the scale to...

Re: Compression test results 1966-- 425 C.I.

I agree with Otto, however, one thing I found with the ignition switch on my 67 when I took it apart was that the plastic connector housing for the wires that actually plugs into the switch had partially melted. WHo knows for sure why. I never had trouble starting my car, but suspect that one time ...

325 trans drive chain

Bruce, this is the first chain I have broken. Been beating on this set up for almost 20 years, Killed a few trans but never a chain. The car is run mostly in first, rare for me to shift under power. What engine are you running in your 79? Would you be interested in a limited slip for it? I had this...

325 trans drive chain

Are there any up grades for these? Shift improvement kits or heaver chains? I am running a 455 built for torque, 3.15 gears with a limited slip carrier. Every TH325 I have taken apart had a broken accumulator spring under that big round cover on the left side. There is a mild shift kit for the 79-8...

Those are generally bullet proof, unless the cover gets smashed. But they are designed
for a small block; the 66-78 TH425 had a heavier chain intended for big blocks. Never
had any problem with either. Bruce Roe

Re: Compression test results 1966-- 425 C.I.

66 toro. -- 96. GT ------------------------- (In terms of brightness of the spark tester) So I'm guessing the culprit is weak spark from the coil??? It's a new coil I put on last year. Could it be the ignition switch Other ideas? Checkov PS Otto , one little puzzle I have is the car had two owners ...
