Re: For those who are restoring their car...

Drive the hell out of it! No car is too nice to drive - that's what they're for. I've never understood how anyone could own a car and just drive it to shows or put it on and off a trailer. Besides what are you saving it for, so someone else can drive it and enjoy it after you're dead? Screw that! T...

TH425 Governor Nylon Gear

I never got the rest of the gear out, guess it fell into the bottom. But I did get a replacement gear on, and I have shifting and speedo again. I actually used an Allison 540 governor gear, measures almost identical, and almost certainly isn't 3 decades old. Recommended by the GMC guys. I already fi...

Re: Vacuum trunk release for a 66

I have a 66 Deluxe Toro. It did not come with the vacuum trunk release but I just bought the kit on ebay. I have the latch, actuator, and the switch. Where does it draw the vacuum from? is there a tank just for this or does it tap in to an existing line somewhere? Thanks, Brian You need a vacuum res...

Re: Compression test results 1966-- 425 C.I.

Even after rebuilding the Quadra Jet and carefully looking for spark etc. etc. I am still getting rough running/ poor starting performance. 1. 122 2. 130 3. 110 4. 119 5. 119 6. 112 7. 119 8. 130. ( I'm simply counting passenger to front 1,2,3,4 then driver to front 5,6,7,8) This is a cold engine w...

Fuel vapor odor

You did well to go through the tank and fuel lines. I am going to suggest going over all the emissions control stuff, including the tank gas cap. Perhaps something isn't venting or releasing pressure properly, and its pushing gas out somewhere. I forget what is in a 68, but I had some problems in th...

Governor Nylon Gear

I took a piece of threaded rod, heated it with a torch until it was glowing. Then I imbedded it into the gear and let it cool down. Then it came right off. That sounds like a pretty good method. Not much room for a claw type to come out. In the mean time I seem to have lifted it off the pin and app...

Governor Nylon Gear

It finally happened here, not really a surprise. The TH425 trans won't upshift, and the speedometer reads zero. The governor which also drive the speedo has a sheared plastic gear. I have spare parts. The problem is, the toothed part of that gear is still sitting way down in that hole, and I don't k...

Re: 1967- Coolant Leak from unknown part name

The hot water valve for the regular pushbutton air-conditioning is usually the easy one to find. The one that is very hard to find and can be quite pricey on eBay is the hot water valve for the Comfortron automatic air-conditioning system because it also has a thermal vacuum switch on it that doesn...

Re: 1967- Coolant Leak from unknown part name

The problems with that water valve, its hard to find, hard to replace, and you can't drive without it. I change those out to a VACUUM OPERATED in line valve which does the same thing. They are less likely to leak; if they do, you can just use hose to bypass them and keep driving. You will need to sc...
