Re: Toro Cooling System Overflow

I found one from a Nissan in the junkyard today that fit the space on the driver side of the radiator. What kind did you use for your Toro, Bruce? Hopefully this one will be large enough. I was going to put one on my '56 Cadillac but that car keeps a nice even level 2" below the filler neck as...

Re: Toro Cooling System Overflow

Does anyone know if 1st Gen Toros ever had an optional radiator overflow bottle? I want to install one instead of letting the coolant piss on the ground when it's too full. If there was never one available from the factory, have any of you adapted one from another car? I did this on my '79 F100 but...

I do not have the intake or exhaust to allow it to breath properly so I am no doubt limited by that as well. Not to mention I am not running E85 so my 10:1 compression is resulting in detonation at timing advances above roughly 30 degrees. This is robbing me of much power, and my intent is to insta...

alternator upgrade

If you get a late 70s alt, it should bolt right in. Note, you may want to keep the same pulley dia, there are subtle dia differences. It will reduce maintenance, give better regulated output, and get rid of some radio static. If you use a very much bigger alt, prepare for slipping belts and use a bi...

octane for 425

Decades ago I had pretty good performance with water injection stopping pinging. It took
a lot of water (under heavy throttle only), and sometimes the nozzles clogged. It wouldn't
help the valve seats, but it does clean out carbon in the cylinder. Bruce Roe

Bruce, can you please explain how the switch-pitch convertor works? Is it activated by the kickdown switch? Is it electrically or hydraulically activated, or a hybrid? What effect does the variable-vane convertor have? I'm new to Toronados and haven't yet secured service manuals. Thanks! That switc...

Aside from the price, that switch hardly does anything for the car. My suggestion is a 68-78 style kickdown switch and an electronic switch pitch control, which will really improve performance. All for a tiny fraction of that price. I gave away most of the mechanical switches I had, they are junk. B...

Re: 1966 Toro Exhaust system

I would say, spend enough to get what you want. Be sure to use enough good quality hangers; mine are OEM types I ordered, with custom mounts to the frame as required. The reason to use 304 stainless, is that you don't want to ever have to replace the system again, your choice. After working on count...

Re: 66 Toronado Questions

I ended up having to rebuild my harmonic balancer for my 66, The timing mark was very badly shifted causing the engine to basically not run. Joe H St. Charles, Missouri 2 - 66 Toronado Lots of Olds engines with lots of miles here. I had the problem of the balancer outer ring falling off of old age ...

The 215/70 series will be slightly SMALLER in diameter than your current tires. The section width of the 215/70 will likely be about 1 inch wider than your current tires. What are you seeking to do with a change in tire size? Get a wider tread? Fill up the wheel well with a larger diameter tire? If...
