Re: Northstar engine swap

I'm not familiar with all the N* variations among makes, models, and years, but my brother's Buick (low mileage, babied, and regularly serviced according to factory specs) has valve cover leaks, oil pan leak, ps leak, a coolant leak somewhere). Transmission has to be removed to replace oil pan gaske...

Re: Northstar engine swap

I wouldn't consider a Northstar engine to be an upgrade. They are notorious leakers from every orifice and suffer from a host of other maladies.

I think you would be better off doing a proper rebuild of your original system(s).

Re: 1966 Toronado air condition upgrade

You might check with Old Air Products or Vintage Air to see what they offer in a complete, separate system. It will be easier to install but won't look original.

Re: Insane serpentine belt kit...

Ya! Where's my flying car or the nuclear powered ones they were telling everybody in the 1950s was just over the horizon?

And yes, somebody's got to be that guy in the picture and unfortunately I got the job.

Re: Insane serpentine belt kit...

I was being sarcastic about the Eclipse and Aston but seriously from the rear I didn't recognize it as an AM right away and Eclipse went through my mind. It doesn't stand out from the crowd enough. Of course it was the same dull shade of grey that every other car is painted these days. I like the ne...

Re: 1966 Toronado air condition upgrade

Personally, I would leave the drums as they are. Discs will not afford more stopping power or even quicker response or shorter stopping distance. The only benefit from discs is their resistance to fading during repeated, hard application of the brakes. Unless you plan on competing in auto cross even...

Re: Insane serpentine belt kit...

Everything you say about new cars is correct. The only problem is that they just don't have any personality, character or style. They are monuments to sameness. Even the models I somewhat like (Dodge Challenger, Chrysler 300, VW Beetle) still don't manage to raise my excitement level high enough to ...

Re: Insane serpentine belt kit...

All that is probably true, but; If it does break on the road, you're screwed. V belts can often be replaced without tools or with one of those Fitzall repair belts in an emergency. Serps require a little more effort and tools to replace on the road. Also, people like us that drive old cars with V be...

Re: 1966 Toronado air condition upgrade

I agree with Harold. If possible, find a parts car and get EVERYTHING remotely associated with the ac system from it. Brackets, all pulleys (I believe crank pulley has extra groove), mounting hardware, condenser, evaporator, dash controls, wiring harness, air plenum, etc. You can repair or modify it...
