Re: 1966 Toronado No reverse and no 3rd gear

Not trying to question your ability, but..., have you check the fluid in the trans? Is if full, does it have any foul smells or dirty coloring? That could be a big indicator of what is needed.

Re: Hard, late shifting into third gear

My first thought is that the two small vacuum lines from the carb that lead to the vacuum advance and transmission are reversed. Remember that on the carb, one line is ported and the other is constant so swap the lines on the carb and see if that makes a difference. Also, I believe the vacuum modula...

Re: '66 Carb Throttle Lever

Found one! There was a guy on another forum that has a carburetor core for a 442. His carb had the Toro lever while mine had the 442 lever. So it worked out for both of use.

Re: 1966 brake drums

I've seen photos of cars that are claimed to be low mileage originals and they have silver finished brake drums. It seems the only times the drums aren't silver is when the owner paints their wheels another color.

Re: Light Shudder When Braking

Taddpole, It looks like I found the shudder. The transmission cooling lines were replaced at some point in the cars past and I found them tapping against the radiator mount. It wasn't a lot of tapping but enough for me to hear it on occasions and reproduce the noise while underneath the car. Anyway ...

Re: Power Stearing Unit

You know, my first reaction is a bearing that's beginning to fail. New pumps are much money but the hassle is swapping the pulley and fluid reservoir. As an alternative, you can send your pump to a company like Lares and they'll rebuild your unit. Either way though, don't be discouraged by the press...

Re: 66 toro sell or keep??

I have been told that I must rebuild the original engine because a non original engine would kill the value of the car. I do appreciate all of your responses. Sorta. These cars just aren't worth as much as they should be so taking a hit due to an incorrect engine really shouldn't be too dramatic. I...

Re: 66 toro sell or keep??

A good car friend of mine sent me this link several weeks ago. It shows actual sale prices of cars and provides a very good real-world look at values. It seems this price guide is much more accurate than Old Cars, NADA or Hagerty. So, using your description and this guide, I could only guess that a ...
