Re: New here, looking to buy a 1966 to 1970 Toronado
Please be sure to have the car looked over, preferably by a local Toro owner if possible, unless you feel competent to determine areas that may be issues. I've restored one of these and it's a huge undertaking. You want a driver, so maybe not perfect, but you also don't want to be frustrated with pr...

Re: Transmission cooler add on
They did offer an optional tranny cooler for towing applications. As a matter of fact, the 69 W-34 that I saw had this option. But really not necessary otherwise. I agree with the comments above regarding radiator cooling.

Re: 1966 Parts List
You deserve a lot of thanks for compiling this list. Wonderful detail. I'll have to compare to what I've found for my car which is a 67 and of course has some different parts.

Re: Headlight actuators 1966
There was a member of the TOA rebuilding these, but I think he may have stopped a couple of years ago as parts were becoming difficult to get. There is another potential source that you could contact -- they do hard to repair parts. I'll try to find the name and give it to you -- located in CA. He r...

Re: ?.. 66 olds chassis service manual/Fisher Body Manual
If you had the hardcopy manual, you would see that they had a completely separate section, towards the end of the manual, that is for Toronado only. Things like engine and other mechancials, carbs, etc. that are essentailly the same as the other Oldsmobiles are in the front section. But you'll find ...

Re: Replacing heater core
Otto, I'm not sure why the hood would have to come off in either case, but I need to think about it (mine was obviously torn down all the way, so no issue). Possibly the reason is that you have to remove the hood hinge to get at the squirrel cage/blower motor and take it out. One other reason I forg...

Re: Makin' it happen
I did use the bushing replacements for the rear springs, and pretty sure they were a tight fit and that I got them from Steele; the issue was getting them in, not that they were too small. I will have to go back and see what we used when we redid them a couple of years ago. I thougtht they were fine.

Re: New here, new to a 66 Toronado
I don't know why I mixed that up, but my opinion of you has improved Otto since I know you're from Georgia and NOT Floriduh. LOL! Damn, they have some sassy ladies down there though! It's funny that you mention Buick, because it's exactly the brand of car they usually drive and meant to put that in ...

Re: New here, new to a 66 Toronado
Otto and I agree completely on the brakes. Drums are fine. If you're going to play Mannix all day, go ahead and change them to disc. Frankly, these cars are expensive enough to repair without adding unnecessary costs and alterations in my opinion. Just fix up the drum brakes properly and you'll be i...

Re: New guy looking at 1966
I did get a lot of the rubber parts from both Steele and Fusick for door/window seals. You can get trunk seals from one of them as well. Windshields do not use rubber, but are sealed in with butyl tape. Rubber body biscuits ,, radiator supports, etc. can be had from Steele. Certain other small rubbe...
