Re: Gas Mileage
Well, I had already done new spark wires and plugs, but after using a carb rebuild kit and cleaning everything else, I'm now getting about 12 mpg city. Nice change from 7. Haven't tested mainly highway driving yet.

The internet archive at archive.org can always dig up things like that for you. You can still find it in full on there.

Re: Shifting
Okay. I've just never experienced that before, but never had a car with drum brakes, so I wasn't sure if I should be worried or not.

Shifting
Alright, a question I have. Whenever I shift between from park to drive or reverse (or between the latter two), the car shifts forward (or backward, depending) and I hear a kind of creaking (I think the brakes complaining). Is this normal in a car like the '66 with such a powerful engine and relativ...

Re: Gas Mileage
Not a bit. I only purchased the vehicle a couple months ago, prior to which it had been sitting in a garage for about 10 years. How do you check vacuum levels?

Re: Gas Mileage
Alright, if I'm only getting 7 mpg city (and I don't drive like a maniac, I have to obey base speed limit which is 30 mph most of the time), is this a sign of mechanical problems? Any likely problem areas to start looking in?

Octane?
I am currently lacking an owner's manual... what octane would be optimal to run in a first gen Toro? I've been running premium, which is 91, but I wonder if I should add some octane booster on top of that. What was the 425 Rocket built for?
And would lead substitute be a good idea?

Gas Mileage
On a 1966 Toronado in good condition, what is the gas mileage expected to be? What is normal, or what was normal for them new or in fully restored condition?

Manuals
Where's a good source for finding shop or owners manuals for first generation Toronados? I haven't had any luck searching for either (my car came with neither), and it'd be nice to at least have a shop manual for doing work on it.

Toronado with Attitude?
Does anybody have the pic talked about at http://www.toronado.org/FAQ/GenI/tires.htm that was described as a "66' Toro with an attitude"?
