Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

Thanks again to everyone! Due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm going to have to suspend my Toronado hunt for now. :-( For those of you who are looking, here is my latest crop of leads. Blue 69 in Minneapolis: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/5471844212.html Green 70 in Dallas: http://dallas...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

More feedback is slowly rolling in from my questions. * A 69 has a Comfortron system. We had that in our 66 and the "comfort" was unpredictably hit or miss by the time the car was six years old. Can a Comfortron car be hacked to manual status or does enough Comfortron expertise remain to s...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

If I lived in LA I'd check it out, but I think I can do better than that on a wider scale. It is amazing to me how bad many of these online ads are. For Toronados, it seems worse because they substitute a cut-and-pasted history of Toronados in general while omitting the details and pics of the speci...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

Here's a new listing for a 66 in Orange County, CA. The ad is long on verbiage but very short on real content. I'm not sure how to respond to this. I'm sure he wants more than $1 and I can appreciate the size/dimensions are "Huge," but there's not much else to work with. http://orangecount...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

This 67 was just re-listed on eBay. The high bidder last time apparently didn't follow through. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oldsmobile-Toronado-full-size-/121924879497 When I mentioned this car before, I thought the air had been removed. But now that I look very closely, I don't think it had air to begi...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

I'm in Kansas City. In fact, I was just a few blocks away from the Mecum auction when they sold that silver 66 on Friday. Grrrr. I agree! I've never purchased a car sight unseen before and it makes me very uneasy. I've seen a few places that advertise local mechanics that, for $50 - $100, claim to i...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

Thanks guys! I've waiting for responses to messages I sent out about three cars. We'll see. Another one that I was marginally keeping an eye on was apparently sold yesterday: a 70 GT. It listed on eBay in Feb and he apparently didn't get a nibble at $8.5k. Even though his site asks for $19.9k, I ser...

Re: 70, 67, or 66 Toronado wanted

Congratulations on your buy!

I see the 66 you mentioned. The main thing that makes me nervous there is the comment about the transmission. That could be a simple vacuum leak or linkage adjustment, but I always assume the worst. :-)

Thanks and happy cruising!
