Re: Help Please
Hello: Having owned & daily driven my '84 Toronado since it was built (presently 194,600 miles), I can provide some information. If your '83 has the 307 V8, it is a very reliable Olds engine. It doesn't make much power but will just keep on running. These engines used a nylon tipped camshaft tim...

Re: Best way to remedy rusted dash-panel?
I'm very glad to hear this good news... I didn't know it was a separate piece. If you can remove the rusted piece in one section, perhaps a good body shop can fabricate a new one. Rust is always a little dicey. One never knows just how far along it has progressed. My '84 Toronado (original owner) sp...

Re: Best way to remedy rusted dash-panel?
I'm not a first gen Toronado expert by any means. However, I don't think this situation can be corrected without a section of the firewall (outer and maybe inner) from a donor car. To fabricate this piece from stock steel might be impossible due to the curvature. This repair will require removal of ...

Re: 1968 A/C compressor
Dave: The easiest was to isolate this 'problem': 1) With the engine off, disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch. Then reconnect but don't fully seat it. You want the connector to make electrical contact but allow removal while the engine is running & the clutch is applied...

'79 - '85 THM 325 & 325-4L Information...
Hello Everyone: While we're on the subject of Toronado transmissions, I'd like to share a personal experience. The 3 speed THM 325 ('79 - '81) & 4 speed THM 325-4L ('82 - '85) were based on the downsized THM 200 & THM 200-4R . IMHO, both the 200 & 325 had a weak link: the intermediate ba...

Re: Msd ignition
Hello Everyone: Regarding MSD or other aftermarket ignition systems, they offer no advantage on a stock engine (over OEM HEI) ... My understanding is that they provide a stronger spark above ~5000 RPM. Unless you are building a high reving performance engine, anything more than basic electronic igni...

Re: loud rattle
Hello dan68toro: The two noises don't seem to be related (IMHO)... First the rattle during hard acceleration: this is probably pinging due to an insufficient octane rating of the gasoline. Are you running premium (92 or 93 octane)? The engine in your '68 has a compression ratio of about 10:1. These ...

1984 Toronado / Original Owner...
Hello Everyone: SO glad this new forum has arrived...! Some might be thinking: "But it's so new..." Yes, it's only 25 years old but I'm the original owner & it has been my daily driver for all this time. The Queen Mary spent the first 20 years in NJ & did succumb to some rust. But ...
