Re: Questions re backup lamp/ neutral safety switch

Turned out to be a switch adjustment issue. I used an ohm meter to check the connection, shifted to reverse, and moved the switch until the circuit connected. Now everything works! I also found that on one of my backup lamp housings, there was no ground connection between the lamp socket and the lam...

66 Toro - where is HVAC vacuum tank?

In working on my headlight problem (see separate post) I discovered that the vacuum hose from the engine only connects to the headlamp vacuum circuit, and there does not appear to be an engine vacuum connection to the HVAC reservoir tank. This is probably why my HVAC controls don't seem to work. In ...

66 Toro headlight problem and diagnosis

I’m having trouble with the vacuum operated headlights on my 66 Toronado. Maybe someone can help. Current issues: Neither headlight raises when headlight switch turns to “on”. RH headlamp can be manually raised but does not lock. LH headlamp cannot be manually raised, it seems to be locked into posi...

Vacuum hose sizes at check valve??

Anyone know the size (ID) of the vacuum hoses that connect to the vacuum check valve? From what I can tell from service manual inlet to valve comes from engine; one outlet goes to vacuum tank, can't tell from pictures where other outlet goes (maybe to headlamp actuator). I suspect I have a bad check...

Questions re backup lamp/ neutral safety switch

So, I'm not getting 12v to the backup lamp circuit when the shift handle is in reverse. I suspect this might be an issue with the backup lamp/ neutral safety switch. I see in the manuals that this switch mounts to the steering column through a slot in the outer tube, just inside of the firewall pass...

Re: Engine won't fire - starter solenoid issue?

Did further investigation and found source of problem was the left backup light bulb socket, which had corroded so that the center contact had shorted to the outer case. Quick fix was to remove the center contact which removed the short. This destroyed the socket and left me with one working backup ...

Re: Engine won't fire - starter solenoid issue?

Found the problem... dead short somewhere in backup light circuit. Removed the backup light fuse, and the car was able to start. Now all I have to do is find out where the backup light circuit is shorted... somewhere past the fuse block. (I suspect that either there is chafing which cut through the ...

Engine won't fire - starter solenoid issue?

66 toronado. Starter turns but engine won't fire. Replaced coil and points, then found out points are always grounded... even when open. Looked for grounds. With the key off, the lead connected to the coil + is grpunded. Per the 66 Toronado wiring diagram, this lead has two branches. The first comes...

66 Toronado - Custom A/C Wiring Schematic?

1966 Toronado - Does anyone know where there is a wiring schematic that corresponds to this picture? I want to know wire colors and connections. Also, where physically in the car is the a/c compressor relay and circuit breaker located?

66 Toronado Horn Button

Looking for a nice horn button for a 66 with the bowtie-shaped horn ring. Anyone got one for sale? Or know where I can look?

Thanks in advance.
