Re: Serpentine Belt Conversion
That belt conversion looks great, I can't wait to see it in your car. I guess I need another Toronado, I love the Modern hardware on our cars, but I can't bring myself to change the radio or electronic ignition, so I'm sure a belt swap is out on mine. EFI 455, serp belt, electric fans, modern AC, 4 ...

Re: 66 rear brakes, any tips for rebuilding?
Probably moot at this point, but make sure you have decent quality wheel cylinders. I needed one in a hurry for one of the rears on mine and made the mistake of getting a piece of junk from Autozone. THAT part lasted <1 year and I had to do the job all over again. Parts quality is NEVER a moot poin...

66 rear brakes, any tips for rebuilding?
Okay, so I've rebuilt a dozen or two drum brakes in my life, and am about to tear into my beloved Olds. I have 4 sets of new shoes and hardware, and 4 new wheel cylinders. I've also got four new shocks and a new steering stabilizer while I'm at it. I'm planning on painting the backing plate with hig...

Re: Newbie question-- 1966 grinding noise on reverse attempt
I had one that wouldn't back up, because the big rear band was broken. The other thing that band does is enable engine braking when the selector is in low. If the trans hasn't had at least a new set of "soft" parts, its way overdue. The rubber seals on the clutch pistons at this age could...

Re: Newbie question-- 1966 grinding noise on reverse attempt
When was the last time your trans fluid and filter was changed? Mine didn't want to shift right until I changed fluid and filter, and then chased down some vacuum leaks due to crusty vac lines. It shifts quite nicely now, despite high mileage and decades long storage. eta: transmission issues in my ...
